Columbia University's Historic Earle Hall: Platform Lift Installation

We are thrilled to share the exciting news that DAY Elevator & Lift, a KLEEMANN Company won the 1st place in the Category: Platform Lifts and Stairway Chairlifts in ELEVATOR WORLD’s 2024 Project of the Year contest.

The Inclined Platform Lift, -manufactured by Savaria-, was installed in the emblematic and historic building of the famous Columbia University – 2980 Broadway, New York. The mission of this challenging project was to replace the previous, incline platform lift with a cutting-edge, technologically sophisticated alternative, by respecting the building’s rich historical architecture.

The main challenge was integrating the new Inclined Platform Lift with Earle Hall’s unique wooden and steel staircase, which featured 27 risers and four 90-degree turns using over 40’ of tubed rails. Precise installation was a complex engineering feat, necessitating a specialized static support system to ensure the required safety and load requirements were satisfied. Meeting these challenges within the school calendar without disrupting university operations required innovative solutions.

The project was highlighted in the January ELEVATOR WORLD, along with the 1st place winners in the remaining categories.

Congratulations to the entire team! May this trophy be the beginning  of more milestones and success in the future!
