Modernizing Elevator Systems

Elevators
November 14, 2014ElevatorsDAYElevatorLift

Today, elevators have become critical elements of multi-story buildings and play a significant role in improving the mobility and independence of people. However, often due continued use can lead to wear and tear, and controls and drive systems of the device become less reliable despite quality maintenance services at regular intervals.

As elevators age, mechanical breakdowns may become more frequent affecting the performance and appearance of the equipment. Moreover, it becomes more difficult to support aging equipment due to the lack of spare parts availability, ongoing coding changes and difficulty in getting electrical prints. Recurring repairs and shutdowns are potential signs that your device

may require modernization. Modernization of accessibility equipment increases the total value of the building and keeps it competitive with newer buildings. In addition, this is the best way to considerably improve the safety and efficiency of the mobility system.

Elevator Malfunction Warning Signs

While professional elevator maintenance services can increase the durability of your accessibility system, some warning signs could indicate that the system has reached the end of its service life. The following conditions show that the device needs to be modernized:

  • If the mobility equipment is over 20 years old
  • Cab smells like hydraulic fluid or is stuffy or not ventilated
  • If the ride is slow, noisy and erratic
  • Long waiting times for the cab to arrive
  • Overheating of the drive and control system
  • Slow response time or frequent breakdowns
  • High energy use
  • Sudden stops and abrupt landings

Modernization of accessibility equipment is the best way to enhance the safety and efficiency of the system. This would improve traffic handling capabilities and reduce energy consumption, thereby increasing the total value of the building. Moreover, the user experience improves through reduced waiting time, better comfort and improved reliability.
