Home » Fishing Tournament to Fund a Portable Wheelchair lift
Portable wheelchair lifts are a great support to wheelchair users enabling them easy access to elevated platforms, stages and outdoor bleachers. A portable wheelchair lift can be used indoors as well as outdoors. It can accommodate wheelchairs of all types such as electric models, sports chairs, power chairs, child chairs, and standard adult wheelchairs. Installing such a portable lift in a public place will prove highly beneficial to wheelchair users giving them more independence and self confidence.
As per recent news, the “Fishing for a Cause” fishing tournament will be held on April 12, 2015 (Sunday) at Dodge Camp, off Lake Freeman in Monticello. The proceeds of the tournament will be used to fund a portable wheelchair lift to enable people with disabilities use the public access site. The new portable lift will be named after Liz Oilar, (the former Monticello Clerk Treasurer) who lost her life to cancer last year.
According to Jim Kramer (the Mayor’s Advisory Council President), the new initiative put forward by the city Monticello will be on par with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). A portable wheelchair lift will help people get in and out of boats as and when they need it. In addition, it will give an opportunity to everyone in Monticello to enjoy boat trips.
The check in time for “Fishing for a Cause” tournament is approximately 6 a.m. (sunrise) and entry fee is $100 per boat, with a $10 Big Bass option. The weigh-in time is 3.30 pm. In addition, a cash prize of $1,000 will be awarded to the winner.
The wheelchair lift will also be offered for use throughout the county at festivals or other events where it is useful.
