Energy Efficient Elevators – A Great Option for Mid – and High – Rise Buildings

Home » Energy Efficient Elevators – A Great Option for Mid – and High – Rise Buildings

September 23, 2016ElevatorsPrity

Elevators are an essential accessory in multi-storey buildings and enable easy access to the different levels or floors. They move vertically up and down to carry people and goods from one floor to another with ease. Today, elevators have become common all over the world with the increasing number of mid- and high-rise buildings. Modern day elevators depend on sophisticated dispatching systems to reduce the wait time for elevator passengers. Both residential elevators and commercial elevators are now available from leading manufacturers. For safe and efficient use, manufacturers design highly advanced energy efficient elevators for high rise buildings. With improved controls, hardware and other systems that consume less energy, these traction elevators are very compact and efficient. Some of these even produce electricity that a facility can use.

Minimizing Energy Usage with Control Strategies

To reduce energy usage, elevators are now manufactured with advanced features that make them energy efficient:

  • In- cab sensors and software that can automatically enter an idle or sleep mode, turning off lights, ventilation, music etc when not occupied.
  • Instead of electromechanical relays, software and microprocessor-based controls are used.
  • Personalized elevator calls used with destination dispatch controls rule out the need for in- cab controls.
  • Destination dispatch control software batches elevator stop requests, making lesser stops, minimizes waiting time and thus reduces the number of elevators required in a building.

More Energy-efficient Options

Now, manufacturers also offer double-deck elevators that are 2 cabs tall, one stopping at even-numbered floors and the other at odd-numbered floors. By reducing the number of stops and the total number of elevators required when used with destination dispatch controls, such elevators reduce a building’s total energy usage.

Machine-roomless (MRL) traction elevators are the most energy-efficient types of elevators. In these, the motors and other equipment typically kept in a machine room above conventional elevators are designed to fit into the hoistway. These elevators produce less heat and consume significantly less amount of energy. There is no need to build a machine room and supply energy, and they are space saving as well.

If you wish to install a commercial elevator or a residential elevator, makes sure that you approach a reliable dealer who can provide customized and advanced elevators at competitive pricing. Ensure that they also provide installation and regular maintenance service.
